UPDATE ON BOBI WINE Saturday January 17 Shortly after Bobi Wine and his wife had filed their own ballots during voting on Thursday (with the entire country under an internet blackout), they returned home, at which point police and army units surrounded their compound, effectively placing Bobi under house arrest. Early this morning, in advance of the preliminary announcement of the election's results, they raided the house itself in a combined operation, attempting to detain Bobi (remember that for months now, the head of the army, Musevini's son, has been advocating Wine's beheading for treason). At any rate, Bobi somehow eluded his attackers and went into hiding, from which he released the following video:
Regime officials continue to search for him, and his safety should they find him remains a matter of urgent concern. Meanwhile, many of his supporters (poll watchers and so forth) around the country have been killed.
